Photography Tips

Taking Family Photos:

1. Hold the camera at the subject's eye level. This means that you can capture the power of the eyes. They do say the eyes are the window to the soul!

2. For Children and pets, this means getting down to their level, as opposed to shooting from a height.

3. The subject doesn't have to look directly in to the camera lens. By getting down to the subject's height, the photo already has a personal and inviting touch to it.
Modelling Tips

Wear loose clothing to a shoot.

Any clothes which are tight, even slightly will leave marks on your skin.

A few examples of clothes that will mark:
Jeans
Bras
Tight underwear
Socks
Hair And Beauty Tips

To reduce inflammation and swelling of spots:

1. Crush an aspirin and mix it with a little water to form a paste

2. The Paste should be thick enough to cover the blemish

How does this work?

Aspirin contains acetylsalicylic acid, which is actually used in anti-acne treatments.

Casey Coleman - Hair Stylist

Casey Coleman

Casey is a 22 year old Hair Stylist and barber based in the Swansea Valleys. He has been hairdressing for 4 years, including his training. In his spare time, Casey LOVES to eat cake, mostly due to the fact that he never puts on any weight! Casey also enjoys going to the gym, swimming and fashion, although most of his hobbies revolve around his career. He is a keen traveller and is planning to go on a 2 year back packing holiday in the near future.

I caught up with Casey to talk about being a hair stylist and his future plans...

What made you become a hair stylist?
Honestly…I don’t know! I remember studying in sixth form and planning on making a huge career out of my designs. But I got offered to work in a salon half way through my course and thought it was the perfect opportunity, and I’ve never looked back.

Did you always want to be a hair stylist?
No, I always thought id either be a well renowned clothing designer or choreographer. I have always had a creative streak, and am now glad I can take advantage of that through hairdressing. Although, the few hair shows that I’ve done, I have choreographed and provided clothing designs, which have had great reviews!

What are your main influences (other painters, musicians, photographers, designers…)?
I absolutely love the work of photographer, David Lachapelle (
http://www.davidlachapelle.com/ ). His work is completely crazy, unimaginable, COMPLETELY ORIGINAL and almost sadistically amazing! Truly one guy who cannot be imitated! Every picture is a visual orgasm and there just isn’t enough, I always want to see more!

In your opinion, what does it take to become successful within your industry?
I think in the fashion/hair industry there is so much you can do to try and be successful. I could fill this page with little hints and tips. But I truly believe that the only way you will honestly succeed in this industry is by always putting 120% effort into your work. Always being well mannered and polite on shoots/shows because you always come across the same people on your road to success as well as when your success runs out.

What are your 5 top hair tips?

CUT IT CRAZY

COLOUR IT MAD

USE TIGI HAIRCARE PRODUCTS

CHANGE YOU HAIRSTYLE EVERY 3-4 MONTHS

HAIR GROWS BACK!

What is the favourite piece you have created?
(see right)
My favourite piece wasn’t meant to be what it turned out as! I had a birdcage in the boot of my car, and whilst prepping for a shoot decided to use it. So I covered it in hair and tried it out…and it looked amazing!! I’ve had a lot of gracious comments about it and I’m very proud of the hairpiece alone, not to mention the actual shot! I worked alongside a great photographer (Grant Thomas) and love the fact that this shot was taken on a merry-go-round.

Tell us about current and future projects….
I’m currently trying to put together a creative team to ensure success for a group of people I trust and know will put 120% effort into their work. It’s very hard to come across just a few dedicated, talented, local people that meet such a requirement! This is why I’m doing shoots every week, to find the perfect group of people to work alongside for a long period of time! I’m also doing a lot of editorial work at the moment, which is getting my name recognised by a lot of photographers (which is a huge plus). I’m getting into glamour which is quite fun, and am working with an amazing photographer on the glamour shoots (Anna Simplypout)! Future projects are all under wraps at the moment; all I can say is remember the name hairGASM!

What songs do you love at the moment?
Hmmm…Poker face is a big one for me at the moment; Lady GaGa is so diverse she gives me chills! To be honest I keep listening to old songs, Goldfrapp are the best band ever created, and I don’t know what I’d do without their music!

What is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?
On my first ever glamour shoot, the model was a gorgeous blonde girl from Cardiff! Really friendly girl! When she did the nude shot, she had the most amazing ink (tattoo) I’ve ever seen in my life. It was butterflies and lilies going around and up her side, all the way to her shoulder. Up close, there was so much detail I could have stared for hours! It was the most strikingly beautiful thing I’ve ever seen!
